How Platelet – Rich - Plasma can help Androgenetic Alopecia?
The term alopecia originates from the Greek word for fox, "alōpēx," that has lost its fur due to fox mange(MAYNJ). Simply it means hair loss and when it is the result of excess male hormone (Androgen) and genetic, it is called Androgenetic Alopecia (AA).
Due to noncompliance of patients and side effects of drugs, current medical treatment of AA is not satisfactory. Using patients’ own blood to create Platelet -Rich Plasma (PRP) is currently a good technique of hair regrowth in regenerative medicine.
How does PRP work?
After withdrawing the patient’s blood and collecting it in a special tube to prevent it from clotting, the centrifuge machine will separate components of whole blood based on their specific gravity. Therefore, platelet remains on top of the tube and red blood cell in the bottom. By aspirating the platelet from the top of the tube, we will have a platelet concentration that is 3-5 times the concentration of platelet in our blood, so it is called Platelet – Rich Plasma.
When injected in a specific location and layer of sculp (subdermal depo bolus injection) by a certified cosmetic provider, the content of each platelet can stimulate existing hair follicle, develop new hair follicle, and increase hair shaft size .
What is recommended treatment intervals?
The three monthly- session should be followed by a fourth session by six months and then the treatment should be maintained once every 12-18 months.
